The Bas-Saint-Laurent Public Health Department is seeking to recruit a full-time consulting dentist for a position in the field of dental health promotion and prevention.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the authority of the Director of Public Health and the supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Health, the public health consulting dentist will oversee the implementation of the dental health component of the 2022–2025 Bas-Saint-Laurent Regional Public Health Action Plan, aligned with the 2022–2025 Programme national de santé publique (PNSP) established by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS).

In their cross-functional role, the individual will:
- Coordinate and provide clinical support for dental health activities with dental professionals in collaboration with the Public Health Service Head;
- Contribute to cross-disciplinary projects within the Public Health Department;
- Oversee national and regional dental prevention campaigns;
- Ensure compliance with commitments toward youth, seniors, and the broader population;
- Represent the Public Health Department at the national level in dental health liaison and consultation mechanisms;
- Participate in efforts to reduce health inequities and in activities monitoring the dental health status of the population;
- Collaborate with external partners to provide guidance and support;
- Contribute to drafting briefs and reports on laws, regulations, or public policies that may impact the dental health of the population.

For responsibilities specific to youth, the individual will:
- Calibrate dental hygienists for school-based screenings to identify children in need of dental sealants or treatment for obvious dental decay;
- Organize the school-based Dental Sealant Application Program;
- Monitor best practices in dental health;
- Provide clinical support and training to public health dental hygienists as needed;
- Co-manage activities with the Public Health Service Head.

For responsibilities specific to seniors and the general population, the individual will participate in oral health promotion initiatives.

Position Requirements:
- Hold a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or equivalent;
- Be a member in good standing with the Ordre des dentistes du Québec (Quebec Order of Dentists);
- Have a minimum of three years of experience in general dental practice;
- Possess additional graduate-level training in public health or a related field, and experience in program development and evaluation is an asset;
- Commit to becoming an active member of the Council of Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists (CMDP) of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent;
- Be willing, if necessary, to pursue additional training as determined by the department head;
- Participate in Public Health Department activities of the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent;
- Be able to travel across the region as needed.

- Ability to work collaboratively;
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.

Compensation and Working Conditions:
- Hourly or fixed-rate compensation based on the Agreement Relating to Health Insurance between the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Québec and the Association of Dental Surgeons of Québec, as outlined in the Agreement section of the Dentist's Manual;
- Work schedule equivalent to 35 hours per week.

Primary Work Location:
- Located at 288 Pierre-Saindon Street, Rimouski. The consulting dentist will need to travel throughout the Bas-Saint-Laurent region as required to perform individual calibration activities, quality follow-ups for dental sealants, or other duties with dental hygienists. A vehicle can be reserved through the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent for these activities.
