How do dentists set their fees?

Dentists are entirely free to set their own fees. Dentists are each responsible for evaluating the oral health condition of their patients and informing them of the cost of the potential treatments. When patients have questions about the fee charged for a dental treatment, their dentist is always the best person to answer them.

Dentists who are members of the ACDQ can refer to the Fee Guide and Description of Dental Treatment Services to help them determine their fees. The fees in this guide are set annually based on an independent study of dental offices’ operating expenses and an annual index of changes in these expenses.
